WAHM Question of the Week

Cecile over at Work at Home Musings asks her Question of the Week:

~~Halloween is approaching. Do you go all out and decorate? What do you do to celebrate?~~

Hallowe'en became too expensive for me in the last few years I handed out treats. I would spend a lot of money on candy, only to see it disappear within an hour as wave after wave of kids came to my door.

This year, I plan to put a fall wreath on my front door and some colourful gourds on the little glass-topped table on my porch, but I won't be doing any Hallowe'en handouts.

It's a shame, really, because I did enjoy giving out goodies. I just have better ways to spend $100 this year.

We get a few pumpkins to carve. I am a pumpkin seed freak. Katie goes out with me or Chris and this year she will be a fairy. The last three years she went as a princess so this is a nice change:)

To celebrate Halloween I used to buy wee punkins (not pumpkins, PUNKINS - I don't know why, but this is the way it must be).

As you know, my luck with costumes is not very good. Take last year for instance: My first costume was NOT a success and evidently my second costume was not as readily identifiable as I thought it would be.

In the olden days I would sometimes attend a party or two (with my erstwhile husband who LOVES Halloween).

Now, I am preparing for Halloween by trying to catch up with egregious lapses in communication with some of my most favourite people (hint, hint). I have been so remiss (I should get a dollar - a CANADIAN dollar - for every time I've said that in my life)!

So sorry about the job (I certainly relate to the getting fired or the more euphemistic "asked to resign"), but I must say that a potential job at Lowblaws sounds better (especially since I never tired of calling it "Blawblaws" whenever I visited Canada).

I would say the only drawback is there was a GREAT book to be created from your anecdotes - living in a "motel" and working at a "hotel."

Much love,
Crazy Bad Kate,

Kate: And if I had an American dollar for each time I thought about you... well, since our currencies are close to par, we'd be equally rich. Then we could go shopping at Blabla's together (yes, we call it that, too!).

The hotel/motel settings were indeed ripe for stories. Ah, well! I'm already over it and ready to move on.

The other day on the "news" - we haven't very good news programs here in my opinion (well, the SATIRE shows usually are the most informative - LOVE The Daily Show) - unless you watch BBC America which is "A little Brit different" - the Canadian dollar was worth MORE than the American dollar.

It was a penny over the American dollar - yes a CANADIAN penny - but still. And perhaps the Canadian penny is not deserving of it's "butt of the joke" status anymore. It's probably worth TWO PENNIES American.

I blame President Bush. And not facetiously (entirely).

Is it bad of me to be very sad that I cannot mock Canadian currency with impunity anymore?

Sadly relinquishing her favourite well-worn currency jokes FOREVER,

Kate: Jon and Stephen = the best news there is on TV.

Do you think our weakling Canuck dollar was not a source of many jokes for me, also? I feel amputated. Bereft.

I blame the turban-heads.

I don't decorate for any holiday but Christmas and even then I do it begrudgingly.

DJ = Scrooge! I know you prolly get into the spirit of Xmas for the niece and nephew. Admit it.

I like putting up Christmas lights around the window casings and such. I'm always tempted to leave them there all year but other than that? Nah. I have to force myself to put up the Christmas tree and it is just for the kids that I do it.
