Alfred Hitchcock Day - a new tradition

A friend writes that March 12 is Alfred Hitchcock day.

Why not? I'm a day late for everything.

Every dog -- and slightly demented director -- must have its day.

I admit to adoring Hitchcock, but not for his movies, for the most part.

I love Hitch for his Presents series, which have lovely twisty endings. GOTCHA!

We all know Hitch had a few bugaboos. Blondes -- well, females in general -- were one of them.

He loved and hated his blonde female stars. Watch his movies and you will see.

(Naturally, I have no info to back this up -- just 47 years worth of hearsay, which I'm betting is of some value.)

Because I said so.

But he also said so: "Even my failures make money and become classics a year after I make them."

As I told SIL, too, AH was famous for including himself in his own show. It has become a sport for me, AH spotting! You have to PVR each show to watch it twice -- once for the story, and once to spot Hitch - in a background crowd scene, in a portrait on a wall somewhere on the set.

He also had an interesting relationship with the evil advertiser:

"Seeing a murder on television can help work off one's antagonisms. And if you haven't any antagonisms, the commercials will give you some."

Also: he was a famously witty man.

"I didn't say actors are cattle. What I said was, actors should be treated like cattle."

"When an actor comes to me and wants to discuss his character, I say, 'It's in the script.' If he says, 'But what's my motivation?, ' I say, 'Your salary."

To a woman who complained that the shower scene so frightened her daughter that the girl would no longer shower:"Then Madam I suggest you have her dry cleaned."

I already knew that Hitchcock appeared in his presentations, and yes, I too engage in AH spotting...fun stuff. Thanks for telling me about the blonde thing though. Didn't know that.

Bet there's more about Hitchcock that we didn't know.

I'm with ya here! I love Hitch for his quirks more than his works. Ha! I made a rhyme...now give me a dime.

Somebody stop me!

"Then Madam I suggest you have her dry cleaned." Oh how I love Hitchcock - if for this reason only.

I love most of his work. I loved the inevitable twist - like eating the murder weapon... it was pure genius.

Shoot, I missed Alfred Hitchcock day?! *pout*

If I'd known, I would have started a meme for favourite Hitch movies... or moments... or quotes. (That "cattle" quote is one of my favourites. I tell that to the actors in my short films and then suggest that they should be grateful that they're working for me instead... mind you, they'd be famous and making a lot more money if they'd worked for Hitchcock... ahem, er, yeah, hadn't really thought about that...)
